As professional photographers, it is our job to go beyond the photo and explore into the realm of artistic. Not every photograph we take is going to come out of the camera perfect. This does not always mean delete is the only answer. Having great knowledge of the camera is great, but having a great imagination can take you past just the tools.
The next time you plan a session, take time to imagine what is not there. Try to discover the beauty of every photograph. Imagination and a great tool-set go hand in hand. Happy shooting!
I recently purchased the 50mm 1.4 Sigma Art Lens. It is currently being priced at $949.00 at B&H Photo. When photographing a promo-shoot, I decided to only use this lens to give it a true test without relying on my trusty Canon 70-200 f2.8 II or 24-70 F2.8 lens. I will continue to add to this review as I use the lens. Keep checking back for updates and tips on how to use it most effectively. These are strictly some of my personal thoughts on the lens.
Weight and Design
The look is pretty sleek. I enjoy the solid black. It compliments my cameras well. It appears Sigma is trying to keep the new Art Lenses similar in design. It is tough for me to quickly notice which is which when reaching for this 50mm or their 35mm. The weight is also manageable. Nothing that should hinder any angles or positions. I will take some time and weigh it on a food scale.
I was shooting in low light quite a bit and noticed it was very reliable. No annoying fringe to deal with. When you zoom in, you can see the detail is still there at 1.4. I was impressed when comparing it with the Canon 50mm f1.2 and the Old Sigma f1.4. I have never used the Canon f1.4 so I can't compare it to that lens. I did notice that the images did get a little crisper at f1.8 when comparing to f1.4.
This lens does not have much problem focusing on what you aim your little red dots at. Just hold steady and make sure your shutter is fast enough and you will see consistently great results.
Things I Learned
When Would I Use This Lens
PHOTOGRAPHY SHOT AT 1.4
Here is an image from a promotional shoot. I also attached a 100% crop of the image as well.
I really enjoy this lens. I do not regret the purchase. I would buy it over another 50mm 1.2 every-time. I really love that it does not have much if any fringe to deal with in post-processing. The images have been great to work with. I love the colors and clarity. A great 50mm lens in my opinion. I will surely be using this a ton at weddings. Keep checking back for updated experiences and photography I have with this lens.
Don't forget to rate, comment and share. I will be happy to review more lenses in the future. Thanks so much.
