Capturing that perfect sunset portrait is a popular request among photographers. My goal is to guide those that want to learn more about how to capture better portraits at sunset. Please keep in mind these are just tips on how to create different looks at sunset. Below the horizon Let the sun go past horizon for dramatic colors. This will create more color transitions in the sky. You can also shoot at a lower angle to let more sky in your view. Try adjusting your ISO around these camera settings. Shutter 125th | F-stop 1.8. Backed by the sun Let the sun hide behind your subject(s). This is a nice shot to capture when you are still waiting for the sun to go below the horizon. It will create a nice glow around your subject. Perfect for silhouettes. Position the sun Look at the area around you and try to think of fun ways you can position the sunset around your subjects. This can create something new and interesting.
